For those that didn’t know, Heavy D was a very influential rapper from the early 90′s.
Besides overtly repping for the big guys, he was one of the first to fuse Hip-Hop with Swing and R&B. He had Notorious B.I.G. on his Blue Funk album before he ‘blew up like the World Trade’, the same album was pretty much produced by some of the greatest Producers of our time, Pete Rock and Dj Premier. He was the first rapper to work with Michael Jackson, he was the President of Uptown Records for a time, and he sold millions of albums, and recently tore down the BET HipHop awards. He was actually the best performer on the night.
His passing is very very crazy as I was with him just weeks ago.
He was playing me his new album, as well as some beats that he was trying to get to UK artists.
It was very surreal. Someone that I had grown up listening to, an artist that i respected, responsible for music that inspired me was in my office, exchanging ideas, commenting on artists I was working with Uploaded 6 months ago -
