I'd be remiss if I didn't open this summary with a big shout out to my friend, RadPaolo (@paolo). His penchant for alt-pop got me inspired to do this sort of thing. Growing up as a synth/new-wave head from the 80s, this genre is like the evolution of that sound.
So why the title? It all spawned from this thing called the #paolofuneral, a reference to Paolo's one man show "Bi-Poseur". He managed to clear a FanimeCon dance floor (albeit a small one) with a mix containing stuff like this. As a great DJ once told me, every great DJ needs to clear a dancefloor once in a while to prove they can challenge the audience and the status quo.
