With older sibling Hefner having enjoyed a warm reception to his debut album for the West London imprint, Russ Jones had his work cut out in making a splash with his own full length for the same label. The opening "Trying" typified Malloy's sound, beats hanging seamlessly from panoramic atmospheres as touches of strings tethered loosely defined instrumentation to the groove. His first set for DC, a blissed mix of Brighton's choice chill out circa 2100, grunting odes to multiplex cinemas and a one-off smash mix out of the Beastie Boys into big band - Joe Williams and the ever-awesome Mel Lewis Orchestra, set in a motion a series of visits west over the next decade, often in cahoots with Turin Brakes key rustler, Phil Marten.
