The nu disco vogue has yielded lots of great music over the last 5 years, but much of what is considered in the genre now comes across as pretty formulaic, static and unadventurous. Not so with the lovely sounds of Frisvold & Lindbæk, another tidy export from Norway whose new collections of remixes, Diskoism, has been a firm favourite in the DT office of late. They weave heady atmospherics, tangible emotion and widescreen cinematic soundscapes into the slow groove template, and it’s one of the most refreshing mix CDs to emerge from this region of electronic music for a while.
This is a wonderfully deep mix of ambient, downtempo and warm fluffy grooves - the perfect accompaniment for these chilly days and nights. No surprise really when you think about where they're from...
