Maaya Sakamoto has featured in some of my previous mixes, however, the range and sheer volume of her work demands its own mix. She began her career when she won a lead role in an anime called 'The Vision Of Escaflowne' which composer Yoko Kanno was scoring. Kanno discovered that Sakamoto had quite an impressive set of pipes and continued to write and produce songs for her through the early years of Maaya's career. Sakamoto has continued to produce works across genres such as folk, electronic and, of course, Jpop, all the while pushing her crystalline vocals to new jaw-dropping heights. She is, without a doubt, my favourite artist working out of Japan. In fact, I would go as far as saying that I'm not that fond of Jpop in general, with the sole exception of Miss Sakamoto. Her music continues to impress and inspires me to reach the same levels of excellence in my own compositions.
