This week the WAGU boys look in detail at the controversial new ‘Elite Player Performance Plan’ which was voted in by the 72 Football League clubs on October 20th.

The EPPP, which sets new rules for academy systems in England, could make it much easier for Premier League sides to hoover up young lower league talent for next to nothing - but will conversely offer better facilities and more hands-on coaching to improve player development.

Following anti EPPP protests at Selhurst Park on Saturday, the lads are joined by James Daly, editor of Crystal Palace fanzine ‘Five Year Plan’, to look in depth at both the positives and negatives of the new scheme.

We also, as ever, round up the weekend’s action from across all three divisions - including our take on Sven’s departure, Barnet’s latest defensive horror show and a brand new Bayo Akinfenwa chant that will soon be sweeping the stands at Sixfields.

There’s all that, plus Yeovil against Middlesbrough in the AJPT…

St. Georges Park "Burton" is nothing like Clairefontaine by the way. It's not being built to train youth players, only to house all of the England teams, but more importantly to train a new generation of coaches, with some set modules specifically for youth coaching. It was all put together after years of researching what the best clubs and countries around Europe do.

Category 1 teams will not be able to "hoover up talent" simply because part of the criteria for the ongoing reviews every two years, is that you shows productivity. So no club is going to risk having a surplus of players if it risks them losing their category status.

I fully expect the EPPP and St. Georges park to be the turning point that finally brings England up to par with other European nations when it comes to raising technically gifted young players. Time for a new generation of coaches to take over, and let the dinosaurs who have ruined our game to bow out at last.
