This mixtape was initially made for the Belgian-Dutch music magazine www.gonzocircus.com and is meant to illustrate the "classic" sounds -well, according to my taste of course - of south-african tsonga disco music, a style that has been evolving since the '80s but that changed drastically over the last years through consistent tempo pitches and the replacement of electric instruments by digital sounds from midi controlled software and workstations (e.g. the shangaan electro style of Nozinja). There are quite some Chauke clan members involved, along some Malulekes as well, not to forget about pioneers such as Peta Teanet, Joe Shirimani and Penny Penny. There's another kind of tsonga disco as well, more in a downtempo kwaito style, reminiscent of the nineties, but that's for another time...
English passionate blogger and music specialist Ernie Goggins (http://27leggies.blogspot.be) shared his libraries with me so I was able to pick out these uplifting gems. Thanks and respect! Sharp.
