Born and raised in Philadelphia, poet and performance artist Ursula Rucker started sharing her art at open mic nights in 1994 before collaborating with producer King Britt on “Supernatural” and becoming the Roots’ favorite when it comes to closing album. After many other collaborations, Ursula released her 1st album “Supa Sista” in 2001, followed by “Silver or Lead” (2003), “Ma’ at Mama” (2006), “Ruckus Soundsysdom” (2008) and “She Said” (2011).
Named Creative Ambassador by the City of Philadelphia in 2010, Ursula just finished a book about New Orleans post-Katrina "Drown The Devil" with Pullitzer-prize winning photographer Clarence Williams. On Sunday the 16th of October, Ursula Rucker was in Brussels to perform at the “Paroles Urbaines” awards and we had the chance to ask her a few question.
