The 1940's was a time of transition for jazz, as it was for the rest of the world. During the war years swing was still king, but a new sound was emerging that would propel jazz into a new direction. With the prosperity of the post-war years in the west people were looking towards the future and changes were coming with the new sounds of Bebop. This coming together of the old and new styles gave us a fertile period of exploratory growth for jazz while it was still enjoying it's last few years of mainstream success. Here is a broad selection of jazz from the forties that helped fuel the Baby Boom.
