PART 1 : Live selections from New York radio in the 80's (WBLS, WKTU, KISS FM) featuring music, traffic and weather reports from money-making Manhattan. Remember, these mixes were put together before samplers were invented, using only decks and reel-to-reel tape machines. Starting with the brilliant 10-minute Tony Humphries 'Traffic Jam' mastermix for KISS FM followed by the phenomenal DJ Twix 'Devastate' (check out the live vinyl looping half-way through). Next up, a stripped-down dub mix of Planet Rock mixing into Kraftwerk's 'Numbers' and CHANNEL J's sex therapy phone-in.
The fun really begins with the legendary WBLS Mister Magic/Marley Marl 'Rap Attack'. The best remix I've ever heard is here, Craig G/Marley Marl's version of Tears for Fears 'Shout' - a total annihilation of the original. Finally, an unusual coupling of Newkleus 'Jam on it' mixing into Talking Heads 'Slippery People'. If I get enough feedback, I'll put together PART 2 so keep in touch. Enjoy.
