Attempting to make a mix culling from over 12 years and 75 releases was not an easy task. My original idea for this hour of 12k music was to make a chronological listen through the years of the label, but I found that difficult to do in only an hour's time. Another couple of attempts at various themes… sleepiness, rhythms, etc… proved to be too contrived. Eventually I settled on the way to do it: choose a starting song - in this case Shuttle358's "Gone" - and just go from there… using instinct and trying to think of some of my favorite 12k moments, floating from track to track.
In the end, I believe this mix sums up a lot of what 12k celebrates: quietly moving, rustling, and simply enjoying a space and a moment and at the same time highlighting a lot of the labels facets. I hope this mix introduces some new artists to you and helps you find your own space.
