I think of this as a fairly personal selection. Not necessarily people I’ve known or worked with (with the exception of my own piece inserted in there) but more listening back a generation or two to composers and tracks that have been really influential to my own work.
There’s a bit of an A-B structure, alternating between piano pieces and drones. Michele Bokanowski’s piece goes through the most variations, from a bit frightening to more lyrical passages. Her processing of voices is really remarkable. The La Monte Young track is the only place I fear a bit of sacrilege in excerpting. It’s worth tracking down the complete version at any cost and settling in to a longer listen. - Stephen Vitiello
