Some of my favourite pieces of film music are heart-wrenching stuff. But that's often exactly what scenes in films need, and composers usually deliver their best during these moments. This may seem like an odd theme for a radio show, but I think you'll agree that all the music within fits the description. (I realized whilst walking to the radio station that I had left out all of Elfman's scores. If you want to hear entire CDs of beautiful, sad movie music, grab his scores to Edward Scissorhands, A Simple Plan, Black Beauty, Dolores Claiborne or Sommersby).
