I am not smooth, for my life has not always been smooth. I am not perfectly balanced, for my feelings are not balanced. I am not symmetrical, for my actions are not symmetrical. My muscular strength is not proportioned throughout my body, as my interests are not equally distributed throughout my life. In a way, my body is like the body of the earth, which with its mountains, valleys, riverbeds, and uneven topography tells the story of its history and creation as surely as my body reflects a distinct aspect of myself, which extending outward from my psyche and embodied in flesh, encounters the passions and challenges with which I am continually engaged.
