Jumping The Gap Show 20 June 2012
A tribute to London archeologists: Jazzman Records, one of our fave re-issue labels. Specialising in soul-jazz-funk rarities, label heads Gerald Short & Euan Fryer's motto is "We Dig Deeper". If you're a regular Jumping The Gap listener, you'll have heard many Jazzman gems over the years right here - everything from a recent LP by Owen Marshall (aka 'Captain Puff - he of the nude recording sessions) to their very first 7" by Kathleen Emery. Hopefully most of today's tunes we haven't aired for a while. Regardless, the real treat is a special selection at the end by Gerald Short himself for our recurring '7 Deadly Spins' segment where guests are asked to select exactly seven 7"s. Gerald's theme was cover versions & includes a mad Bee Gees one! We also spoke to Gerald by phone, which you'll hear along the way. xx Paris. NB: Sorry, lower sound quality 2day. Studio feed was dodgy, so a cracklier FM dub was used.
