Jumping The Gap Show September 9, 2011
Kicking off with some spaced out, mid-'70s Herbie Hancock chops, this was also the week we previewed the new Katalyst LP, which was still a few weeks from being officially released. Avoiding the singles in favour of Katalyst's instrumental hip hop blends of dialogue, soul samples and funk, we also pulled out some likeminded/inspirational sounds from James Brown, Penny Goodman, Bill Withers, Charles Jackson et al. After closing the show a few weeks back with Oscar Brown Jr's search for a brother, a freshly discovered version of the same song by Fania's Puerto Rican soul-brother Ralfi Pagan just had to close today's show. Ahh Ralfi... listen and weep!
